One of our assignments from Yoga Teacher Training was to think about the meaning of om and what it meant to me. Doing some research online using different sources, this was how I defined om (it is actually a chant that has 3 sounds: A-U-M, then silence).
Om is the sound of the universe that unites and aligns the body, mind, and spirit and creates a connection with the universe and one another.
Om is the sound that connects us to the universe or the divine. It unites the body, mind, and spirit by energizing the body, clearing and opening the mind, and bringing awareness of the spiritual. The chant aligns us with one another and links our practice to the past, present, and future.
